Frequently asked questions
How do I import audiobooks?
Open the Import screen and choose a source: Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, Open In from another app, or a connected server. Select the audiobook you want and Wave Books adds it to your local library.
Which file formats are supported?
Wave Books plays common DRM-free audiobook formats such as M4B, M4A, and MP3. Files protected by digital rights management (DRM) cannot be played.
Can I listen offline?
Yes. Once a book is imported or downloaded to your device, you can listen without a network connection. Offline listening is the core of Wave Books.
How does iCloud Drive discovery work?
Wave Books can discover audiobook files you have placed in your Wave Books iCloud Drive folder and let you choose which to import. It does not automatically sync your entire library.
How do I connect AudiobookShelf?
In the Import screen, choose AudiobookShelf and enter your server address and credentials. You can then browse your self-hosted collection and download books to your local library.
How do I connect Jellyfin?
Choose Jellyfin in the Import screen and enter your server details. Once connected, you can download supported audiobooks from your own server.
Does Wave Books support AirPlay?
Yes. You can send playback to AirPlay-compatible speakers and devices from the player controls.
Can I change the playback speed?
Yes. Adjust playback speed from the player, along with skip time, chapters, and bookmarks.
Does Wave Books show ads?
Wave Books shows a few of our own ads to fund development — nothing from ad networks, and nothing that tracks you. A one-time purchase removes them. To restore it on a new device, use the restore option in the app’s settings while signed in with the same Apple ID; purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store.
Does Wave Books collect analytics or diagnostic data?
To keep the app reliable we collect crash reports and basic usage and performance data using our own self-hosted software — it stays on servers we run, isn’t shared with any third party, and is never used to advertise to you. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I report a bug?
Shake your device (or tap “Report a Bug” in Settings) to open the in-app report form. It captures a screenshot you can review, annotate, or remove before sending — nothing is sent until you tap Send. You can also email wavebooks+privacy@proton.me with steps to reproduce.
Where can I read the privacy policy?
See the Privacy Policy for details on what information Wave Books processes and why.
Where can I read the terms?
See the Terms & Conditions for the terms that govern use of Wave Books.
